PS3 has stopped recognising my external HDD?

I have always used 2 external HDD on my ps3 (one with mains power and the other gets powered by USB), both are in the fat32 format and I have never had a problem with either. I use one to store movies and one for music. The last few months I have not been able to access these drives from the PS3 yet the computer will pick them up. They won't even show up on the XMB anymore and I don't remember making any changes other than the usual firmware upgrades. Has this been removed at all? Is there any way to fix this as I have enjoyed using my PS3 as my media centre for a long time. I can plug in a USB pendrive and it will work. Any help will be greatly appreciated, I miss my music :(
Hi thanks for answering. I have checked on the computer and it works fine. In disk managment it says it is FAT32 and it had worked on the PS3 previously for about a year. Might have to try reformating them just don't get how they would both stop working at the same time.

I'd be more inclined to buy one online from a Computer store, Game.co Or Even Play.com, but if i wanted one on Pay Day, & went to a Game Store, how do i know they aren't shoving me off with a 2nd hand PS3, that someone may of just walked in with days earlier

I know they shouldn't do this, but i've seen what they do, they just stick on a security sticker & call it new, the last one i bought was second hand but that's only cause i asked for it, but even then, the bloke who had bought it in to sell was the person who was stood in front of me in the queue.

I felt well sorry for the bloke cause i paid £400, & the look he gave me when i was told the price, well he was a bit annoyed to say the least, & thats all they did, they stuck on a security sticker & from the outside it looked new,

I just dunno what to do ... Should i get one on Pay Day (Friday) or order one online & get PS Move & Eye for an extra £35 & wait for it to be delivered .... Tough call, i've been with out a PS3 for almost 3 months now & have the biggest stack of games ever waiting to be played ... Grrrr Choices

Help ps3 not reading disks after 3.41 update?

Title says it all. I am pretty damn sure it is the update, because I hardly even use the ps3 anymore ( once every 2 weeks nowdays). Even back when I did, it would only be 4 sometimes 5 hours tops at a time. And it has always worked perfectly fine up until I updated.

I have the 40GB model and it was bought in store around Christmas 2008. It does not show the disk at all in the menu, and this is using blueray games and dvd's. I have noticed that the timer looking thing in the top right corner spins like normal for about 30 seconds when I put a disk in, and putting my ear against the ps3 I can hear the disk spin aswell, but nothing shows in the menu, so I cannot play it.

Is there any way I can get this bloody console to start reading disks again? I want to play a couple of exclusives that I was about to get ffs. I was also considering downloading the older update 3.30, which is what I had before the 3.41, my question is, will the ps3 even allow it? and are there any risks to the system if i use an older update?

I have a 46' samsung 1080p hdtv hooked up to an onkyo HT-S7100 receiver which is connected to both my PS3 and Cox HD DVR all through HDMI cables, these are monster cables i got at best buy for a ridiculous price that are at least a year old and are almost about to reach the 2 year range, I know the ps3 has had pretty frequent updates since then and i have been unable to even watch my blue rays for a few months now and i noticed that my tv is having trouble showing 1080i picture from my DVR, sometimes even dropping the picture when changing channels, ever since a recent update a couple of days ago, so i figure i need to upgrade some of my cables in order to get everything working again.

Do I really have to switch out all my cables?
Would New cables work with my old ones?
I guess I would just like to know how many HDMI cables I should buy or for which pieces of equipment? if someone could recommend a really good cable for a good price as well I would really appreciate it.

Hey, sooo......I got my ps3 two days ago and had a vouched gift card for the ps3 store. But it said before I by anything I must have a playstation network account but that I mush have a master account because I'm under 18. Stupidly, I asked my dad to make an account whilst it was still on my user! We tried to fix this by making another user for my dad and swapping the names around......then I realised I couldn't transfer my saved games to my account (so annoying). We changed the users back and changed the details but the problem Is my ps3 has my dads online user name, if thinks I'm a man and it also says eerr..that I'm a tAd bit older :P please, how do I delete the account!!!!!! :)
Do you mean your User account has your Dad's PSN ID?

Yes, and I know you can change the details e.g. Email, Address and name, but it doesnt let you changed your user name, age or gender. So if I play online my friends will think im a 40 sumthing year old man, with my dads user name! :P
And I meant, because my Dad joined the Ps3 network on my user, i changed my user name to my dads name, then created a different user for myself, then we were going to create a Ps3 sub account for myself that way, untill i realised that i couldnt transfer my saved games (or they wouldnt work when i transfered them) from my old user, to the new one. So yes, i just want to see if i can find an easy way to DELETE the account :)

How do you buy content and pay for it (e.g. debit card/credit card)? 2. Does it save to your HDD? 3. I know you can transfer Rock Band DLC from one PS3 to another as I've done that before when I upgraded to the 160GB PS3. Alright so I'm just gonna give every detail even if I don't think it's important.

Last night I added $20 to my PSN wallet, then bought Fat Princess. This morning I played Fat Princess online. I tried to go back to the PlayStation store, but it says "Not available for your country/region" or something like that. Then I tried to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 online, but it stays on the "Connecting to Matchmaking Server" sign.

I searched online to find out what I could do, and it said that the PlayStation Store was under maintenance. Also, when Modern Warfare 2 was first released almost a year ago, people had the same problems that I had because of the slow servers. But I can't find anybody that still has this problem now. But I don't think that the PlayStation Store is under maintenance right now, because I'm also having trouble with Modern Warfare 2. I tried turning off and on my PS3 system, then unplugging my modem and plugging it back in, but nothing's working.

so tonight i wanted to play some COD with good friends of mine and i noticed it took forever for the matchmaking server to connect so i thought it was the disk, after a few attempts it wasnt and i thought maybe my connection and i did a test and it was fine, then i thought of logging out then back in, and it let me sign in, but i couldnt have access to my account info and i couldnt access the psn store, for the store it showed "not available for your region or country" and i knew that was odd cause everything was working no more then 24 hours ago, and when i wanted to access my account management it showed that lovely 80023017 error code.

So to put my mind at ease...its just the stupid psn network doing matanence right? or an update coming? cause i really hate that error code......any advice would help thank you

I tried downloading the "PS2 System Data" Add-On content that should allow me to play PS2 games, but it didn't work. Then I read the description for it and it said: "For US and Canadian users only". I do have a US account. Then I read on and they listed model numbers CECHA0 or whatever.. then I looked at the back of my PS3 to re-check and it didn't support it (mine was .. CECHA4).

I don't understand, why? Is it because of the US Playstation Store?

I just bought some songs on the Rock Band store to use on my PS3 with the Rock Band 2 game. The tracks do show up in my download list but the download stays stuck at 99%. I've already tried cancelling the downloads, restarting the PS3 and downloading again, and this time got an error (code 80710723).

What makes older PS3s overheat so easily? Can it be curbed?

I recently got a PS3; one of the older ones, though, so I could play PS1/PS2 games on it. It may have been a bad choice, but I still have a few days to return/exchange it, so, meh.

Anyway, I bought Dragon Age for it, which is awesome (except for the controls, especially compared to the PC/Mac version...ugh!), but I just went and played it for like an hour...and got the message that the system was getting hot. No more than 3 minutes later, the system shut itself off, assumedly from overheating.

So, that was after an hour. Maybe an hour and a half, but two hours would've been a stretch.

Now, at this time, I had a download going from the Playstation Store, too. That would've finished and all, but would this really have sped up the time it takes for the system to get hot? Are there any other ways I could curb the system getting so hot so quickly, aside from moving it to a cooler spot (which I sort of can't do)?

I'm trying to save the majority of my money and spend it wisely but there's a few things I've spent on. Cedar Point being one of them. This Summer at 22 years old I got my first job and I'm almost to 2000 dollars. Had I not had to pay for a college book and went to Cedar Point, I would have more than that.


I've bought a PS3 that I found from a collector for just $112 dollars. Now, my TV is dieing and I wanted to buy a new one and I found a 22 inch LCD TV, bigger than my last and it is PAL and NTCS compatible and looks pretty descent but it's selling for 269 plus shipping like 280 dollars.

I was almost back to 2000 dollars in the bank before I went and took out 300 to buy the TV. I'm conflicted if I should or shouldn't. I make about 340 a pay check, which isn't a lot but it's ok for a grocery store and I work hard for it.

I never cared much about money before but I admit that I'd like to own these two things, I have in mind I might save up for a car some day but I don't really want to spend on anything TOO expensive. A 22 inch LCD TV for 280 dollars...I don't know.

Right now I have 1, 960 dollars available to me, because I took it out of my savings and put it into my checking account. I had 2, 228.97 before I went into the back today.
